The cultural programme will take place in eleven locations in Prague. The conference will also commemorate several important anniversaries, including the end of World War II (1945), the end of the Vietnam War (1975) and the Srebrenica genocide (1995). These anniversaries will form the backdrop for discussions on memory, justice, current societal challenges and the global impact of historical trauma.
Main themes:
Memory, Politics and Social Transformation
Trauma, Violence and Resilience
Digital Memory and Education
Health, Environment and Economic Memory Landscapes
Theories and Methods of Memory Studies
Memory Walks and the Voices of Memory exhibition
The programme will offer introductory lectures by prominent personalities – prof. Astrid Erll, a leading expert in the field of memory studies from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, and Georgi Gospodinov, the 2023 Booker Prize laureate and renowned Bulgarian writer, poet and essayist. The conference will also include panel discussions, thematic exhibitions, film screenings and other side events. Of note is the pre-conference exhibition ‘Voices of Memory’ at the Hybernska Campus, where international artists will present works on the themes of heritage, corporeality and solidarity through various artistic media. Participants can also engage in guided memory walks through Prague that will reveal hidden layers of the city’s history. These walks are also open to male and female journalists by appointment.
