CfP: Together and Alone: Czechoslovakia, Czech Republic and Slovakia after November 1989

The Czech-Slovak Commission of Historians in cooperation with the Department of History of the Faculty of Science, Humanities and Education of the Technical University of Liberec, the Regional Scientific Library in Liberec and the Institute of Contemporary History of the CAS, v. v. i. is organizing an expert seminar to be held on 22 October 2025 in Liberec.

The seminar will focus on the CzechSlovak dimensions of postSoviet development both within the common state until 1992 and in the Czech and Slovak Republics after 1993. We welcome papers on the different perceptions of major political, social or economic problems in the two parts of the federation, as well as analyses of their different transformation strategies and the development of Czech-Slovak relations in the broader context of European integration and post-communist change.

Submissions with a proposal for a paper for the seminar (or for the monothematic issue of the Czech-Slovak Historical Yearbook 1/2026) should be sent no later than 31 May 2025 to: jaroslav.pazout@tul.cz.

The deadline for manuscripts for the issue is 31 December 2025.
