Výstava Moc předmětů. Materialita mezi minulostí a budoucností
We cordially invite you to the exhibition presentation of the project The Power of Objects: Materiality Between the Past and the Future, on which we are collaborating with eleven institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences and other partners from the academic and public sectors. The exhibition is located in the foyer on the 2nd floor of the National Technical Museum (Kostelní 1320/42, 170 00 Prague 7).
The starting point for the Materiality project is the fact that objects envelop and surround us; we work with them, they serve us, and we desire them. At the same time, we face challenges in obtaining the materials and raw resources needed for their production, as well as their environmental impacts. The material dimension of human existence thus presents a fundamental challenge for human society. At the same time, it serves as a crucial lens through which we can understand these issues and better address them.
Joint interdisciplinary research explores how:
• materiality shapes our thinking
• it divides the world and creates hierarchies
• it helps us understand art as well as current environmental, social, and political challenges
Integrating the latest findings from the social sciences, engineering, and natural sciences can help formulate technical and conceptual solutions to current crises.
