Book World Prague 2026
The Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences, together with ten other humanities and social sciences institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, will participate in the Book World Fair, which will take place May 14–17, 2026, at the Prague Exhibition Grounds in Holešovice. Come purchase selected titles at a discount or learn about the activities of the individual institutes.
On Friday, May 15, at 2 p.m., our colleague Jiří Hlaváček will also speak at the fair during a discussion marking the release of the book Minutes Between Life and Death: The Transformation of Emergency Medical Services (1952–2003), of which he is the editor. Petr Svobodný, physician Marek Slabý, and paramedic Martin Trhlík will also participate in the discussion. Tereza Stýblová will moderate. Starting at 3 p.m., you can meet Jiří Hlaváček at the Karolinum Press booth (KD102).
On Sunday, May 17, starting at 1 p.m., Jan Dobeš will discuss with Polish historian Piotr M. Majewski his book Let Them Not Think We Are Collaborators—on Czech collaboration, the attitudes of the elites, the intelligentsia, and ordinary people, and the moral dilemmas of survival during the German occupation.
